SCHOOL CASE STUDY: Florendine Primary School in Tamworth

Jason Hudson, Deputy Headteacher discusses the impact of LbQ.

We talk constantly about how LbQ is beneficial for teachers and their pupils, so we thought it would only be right for you to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. We sat down with Jason Hudson, Deputy Headteacher at Florendine Primary School to see how they use LbQ in the classroom.

LbQ looked to us, as a school, to do all the things we believed that technology should be able to do, to support learning in the classroom, but no one had got it right - up until this point. It could deliver content, differentiate questioning, support SEND, monitor individuals, track attainment and motivate children, all in one simple package.

.

Instant Impact in the Classroom

"The practise set of questions have been invaluable to our pupils over the last year. Post-pandemic, we noticed a large decrease in children's mathematical fluency and recall. But, using some practice questions regularly with small groups and/or the whole class, helped the children catch up to where they should have been. Using the analysis tools with the class to set targets and share tricky examples has been incredibly motivating for everyone.

Using these tools has had a major positive impact on certain children who (for one reason or another) were not engaged consistently with home learning during the pandemic and had lost most ground, in relation to their peers."

Effective Engagement

"LbQ allows every child in your class to see how they are doing, to get help when they need it and to be stretched when they are ready. The children feel secure in its use and love to demonstrate their success, using the system. If you're looking at box-ticking, then here are a few of the reasons we think highly of LbQ: Increases pupil engagement, speeds up planning and resourcing, tracks progress over time, supports moderation, develops maths mastery, links perfectly with our use of White Rose Maths, and supports our ability to intervene at the point of learning."

.

Intervention and Differentiation

"As a school, we had recently changed our marking and feedback policy to focus predominantly on 'Intervention at the Point of Learning.' We are seeing that the focus and progress in lessons was improving, but teachers struggling to find effective ways to ensure that all children's misconceptions were addressed within a single lesson."

"When LbQ came along, we quickly realised that the system did exactly what we needed it to: LbQ allows us teach and target children when needed, to stretch and challenge when children are flourishing and to support and differentiate for children who need that extra support. All of this can happen in real-time, in a single lesson, through the use of LbQ."

How has it been working with the team at LbQ?

"The team from LbQ are fantastic. They are always on hand to offer support and advice when required. Furthermore, they are keen to share new developments, new content and new ways of working the system to maximise what you get out of it."

Is there anything you would like to say to others who might consider LbQ?

"If you're thinking about investing in LbQ then you already understand so many of the benefits of the system. Think about the options of providing every child in a class with a tablet of their own and start to list all the benefits that could bring to your class.....or ask us to share with you how we can maximise the use of tablets and be a greener school, all whilst motivating our pupils."
