Year 6 LIVE 2026: CPD festival for teachers builds community
Year 6 LIVE 2026 was no ordinary event: this inaugural CPD event celebrated Y6 teachers with a taste for adventure! We conquered ziplines, learnt lots and laughed even more.
On September 12th 2026, in collaboration with PGL, Learning by Questions held its inaugural Year 6 Travel Guide LIVE event. This CPD with a difference combined interactive workshops from educational workshops with high-octane activities atop climbing walls, zip wires and more.
At Learning by Questions, we believe that there’s no job quite like that of a year 6 teacher: the pressure of SATs, the difficulties of transition, the raging hormones… so, we wanted to bring like-minded teachers together at Year 6 Travel Guide LIVE for a day of laughter, learning and real connections that last. Yes, it was CPD for teachers in year 6, but for those with a taste for adventure (and impactful classroom insights, of course!)
What did we get up to at Y6 LIVE, 2026?
Teachers travelled to Year 6 Travel Guide LIVE from across the UK, and worked carousel-style during the day, attending our four fantastic workshops and informative queue-and-do advisory sessions. PGL’s Dearne Valley was the perfect place for attendees to get adventurous in the beautiful South Yorkshire countryside, too. Teachers were given opportunities throughout the day to try out a range of adrenaline-fuelled activities like abseiling, climbing, zip-wiring and archery.
CPD workshops at Y6 LIVE 2026
The CPD offering for the day came in all shapes and sizes, allowing teachers to hear from specialists in data analysis, wellbeing, transition and outdoor learning.
Claire Jaggar, from Barnham Primary School in Bognor Regis, said "it’s been great to meet up with lots of other year 6 teachers and realise that we’re all facing the same challenges and experiences together."
Striking the year 6 balance with Sophie Bartlett
Our very own Sophie Bartlett led the incredible presenting team at Year 6 Travel Guide LIVE, offering her expertise on striking the year 6 balance right: ensuring curriculum coverage for SATs, but also keeping longer-term learning firmly in sight. Needless to say, attendees left with a comprehensive roadmap for planning and prioritising in year 6 and a renewed confidence in their own capabilities.
Wellbeing CPD for teachers: Charlie Burley’s ‘mental health menu’
We know that wellbeing CPD for teachers often feels like another long to-do list, and it’s sometimes difficult to know where to start. However, with the know-how of Charlie Burley (a.k.a. The Teachers’ Health Coach) attendees at Year 6 LIVE learned to put together their own personal “mental health menu.” As Charlie highlighted, the small-but-mighty steps we take towards self-kindness can take as little as two minutes to put in place, and have a real impact on mental health.
Thinking ‘Year 6.5’ with Emily Weston
Emily Weston, primary to secondary transition expert, wants us to stop thinking “just year 6” and start thinking ‘year 6.5.’ Her interactive session at Year 6 LIVE gave attendees a month-by-month guide to embedding transition throughout the year, so ‘big school’ doesn’t seem quite so big. (It’s worth a watch for the tie-tying competition alone…)
Outdoor learning in KS2: PGL's Dr John talks building resilience
Outdoor learning in KS2 builds the resilience children take forward long into the future, as we discovered in Dr John Allan’s workshop at Year 6 LIVE 2026. Dr John converted theory on outdoor learning into practical exercises showing how resilience is built and embedded to last children for life. This session showed attendees how a ‘not-giving-up’ attitude can boost the academic and social outcomes of pupils in KS2.

Putting the fun into teacher CPD: zip lines, archery and abseiling, oh my!
In between the workshops, there were plenty of opportunities for some hair-raising PGL fun! Attendees experienced the Dearne Valley site in all its glory, trying out zip-wiring, archery, climbing and abseiling throughout the day. We faced our fears, worked together and enjoyed this incredible site to its fullest. All in all, Year 6 Travel Guide LIVE was definitely CPD for those year 6 teachers with a head for heights…
One day with impact across year 6
We had a fantastic time celebrating everything about year 6 with our wonderful community. This event showed us that when there’s a safe space for teachers to share knowledge, laughter and more than a few marshmallows, year 6 doesn’t feel so overwhelming! Perhaps more importantly, attendees left with practical knowledge and tips to be able to use with year 6 tomorrow and well beyond.
@MrsJTeaches: "Such a fantastic atmosphere - I’ve never been to a training event like it, roll on next year!"
